Despite all of the back-to-school photos and fall merchandise appearing in the stores, the weather is still hot and I am still craving fun summer reads. If you’re in the same boat, I highly recommend Summer Secrets by Jane Green.
Summer Secrets is the story of Cat Coombs, who we meet in the midst of her partying years working in publishing in London. When Cat’s mother, Audrey, drops a bombshell about who Cat’s real father is, Cat packs up and heads across the pond to Nantucket to meet the family she never knew about. But Cat’s wild ways get the best of her, and she heads home to London leaving a trail of broken hearts behind her.
The story continues as we follow Cat through her ups and downs, her wins and losses in life, sobriety, and love. Jane Green weaves a wonderful tale of struggle, perseverance, and the reality of being human. The last line of the book is one of my favorites (and I promise does not give anything away): “And smile as I think of how far I have to go.” Because no matter how far we may have come, we all have a lot more room for improvement.
I have been a fan of Jane Green for a long time, so I was very excited when I was given the chance to read her latest book before its publication date. Summer Secrets is available from St. Martin’s Press, and you should add it to your summer reading list before this season starts to slip away from us.
